Surface Tension

Updated: Aug 20, 2019

Inspired by Ottawa River, the wall Surface Tension is composed of triangles whose surface gently moves as people walk by it.

Surface Tension

This triangles of this "breathing" wall bear images of micro-organisms from Ottawa River viewed under microscope. The acrylic panels that float over each image reproduce the effect of light playing on the water's surface. This work is a reference to the phenomenon known as surface tension, whereby the cohesive forces between water molecules create a surface that resists rupture under tension or stress. Motion is achieved by 26 linear motors mounted inside the wall.
